“Blur” 360 avatar rewards

Wednesday, May 26th, 2010

I’m a sucker for games that offer up Avatar clothing as rewards for in-game progress. The second I heard the slightest whisper of a possibility there were Avatar rewards in Blur I went on the hunt for information. This is what I have found.

I earned this shirt and achievement combo on accident. All you have to do is wreck an opponent. I earned mine in the Live multiplayer, but it sounds like a wreck in the single player will suffice. As a warning, you might not notice the Avatar Item Unlock because of the achievement notice. Don’t worry about this at all.

For completing all of the achievement, or stickers, in the game you get this fancy shirt. That’s it! One awesome feature of the game is the achievement tracking. You can see how many objectives each has, your progress, and it looks very slick. Access this from the “Stickers” option in the menu.

This one comes from persistence in the multiplayer. Similar to Modern Warfare 2 and the Prestige mode, Legend mode resets you back to level one online, but unlocks new legend cars to race. Just for rolling over you get this sweet shirt.

There seems to be some differing opinions on this one right now. Either you need to best an online friend in a Friend Challenge, or you need to beat them at a REchallenge. You can send out challenges for high scores in the single player, but when raced, your friends can send back a rechallenge. Either way, this shirt isn’t too tough to get.

This is a single-player completion reward. For completing the final level, Showdown, you unlock the Showdown shirt. I didn’t see any designation for difficulty level, so just pick whatever is easiest for you and work your way up.

Hopefully these are accurate descriptions of the shirt requirements. I’ll keep updating this if anything changes. Otherwise, enjoy and have fun with your new stylish Avatar gear!

Audio and visual iPhone app sales – (free)

Sunday, May 23rd, 2010

I got a couple of free apps for you to dig into this weekend! First is Light Writer, a light-art app that lets you choose a phrase or basic image and use the iPhone’s screen to flash the characters. When moved side-to-side, others will be able to see you message bright and clear!

I also found an app for your audiophiles as well. SoundPad! lets you record and replay any sounds you want. Create an electronica symphony or just grab some great Schwarzenegger quotes and express your creativity.

These apps are only free for the weekend, so make sure you download them ASAP! Sure, that’s only a savings of a couple bucks, but think of everything you can do with that extra cash! Get some value menu goodness, spread some karma to the musicians downtown, or tip your favorite barista. More likely you’ll just blow it on another tower defense though. Either way, enjoy the apps!

Ninjatown returns with “Trees of Doom!” – (a review)

Monday, May 17th, 2010

When I first heard there was going to be a new Ninjatown game, I nearly lost my cool. The DS version, which came out in late 2008, was one of the best tower defense titles I have ever played, and I’ve played a good number of them. So it’s no surprise that I was eagerly awaiting the release of Ninjatown: Trees of Doom! for the iPhone.

At least I was looking forward to it, until I found out it wasn’t to be tower defense. How could I ever love anything more than the first game? So I passed on ToD and went looking for other games. A few days went by and I started seeing rave reviews, like this one from FingerGaming.com. I guess it was worth looking into after all.

Let me be the first to call myself an idiot. This game, while nothing like the original, is worth every penny! I’ve been draining my phone’s battery for the last four days doing nothing but striving for numerous Plus+ achievements (21 in all). So let’s get down to the finer points of the game. (more…)
